Just picked up my issue of Applied Arts Photography and Illustration Annual. My work for Loblaws Black Label packaging was recognized on page 105.

This is what I’ll be drinking tonight. Leffe is one of my favourite Belgian beers. I love the bubbles still rising to the top in this shot. I also opted to go with with a clean glass instead of sweating it.

I saw an old friend in an alley way the other night. Jamie Kennedys Gilead Cafe is using a photo of mine for the restaurant identity. The picture of preserved cherries was originally shot for Jamie’s “Season’s” cookbook, which we worked on together a hundred years ago. It was during that project that Jamie passed on to me the secret of always looking 20 years younger than you are. It’s a complicated process, but step one is dinner at the Gilead Cafe.

Like a good chef, Jamie hates to waste and has given this image a new life. He has even put it on a t shirt, which Jamie has generously donated to my blog. This week at the studio, we have an intern from the Creative Photography program  at Humber College.  Just like Tom Sawyer, I am willing to share when it comes to painting the cove. Here Meg is pictured with a bagged paint tray, just like the pro’s do it. Rock on Meg.

That did not always work out. Let’s say it’s dark out and you get into town late at night. Who wants to set up a tent in the dark? Best to get a hotel. Unless there are two conventions in town at the height of the summer tourist season. In that case, I would stay at the Chateau Dodge overlooking the camper van section of the local Walmart parking lot. Rates are reasonable and it’s only a short walk to Starbucks in the morning. Just outside San Antonio Texas I found these three Texas Longhorns you see on the bottle. By lying low and making sounds like a dying seal I was able to get them to all look at the camera at the same time.

Pictured below is yours truly on the wrong side of the fence doing the wrong thing. Please don’t try this at home, not every Bull is so mellow, in fact most are not, and those horns can move with astonishing speed.

Ranchers breed the Texas Longhorn  because they like to look at one or two in the front of their property. They are not raised for beef, rather it’s the length of their horn which determines their value. A cow with really long horns can sell for well into five figures.

You’ll find them at the back of the store on an Island devoted to Black Label products. Both products are a perfect way to bring some comfort to a cold winter’s night.
